How to Prepare Your Hair for Spring

How to Prepare Your Hair for Spring

Spring is a beautiful season that brings us new life, new blooms, warmer weather, birds chirping are all exciting things that come to mind when we think of Spring. But also, with Spring comes April Showers and Humid weather too.  All of that moisture in the air brings a whole set of problems to our hair, and if we don’t take some measures then we can end up with frizzy and unruly hair.

Today, I am going to share 5 tips that will help you have good hair days this spring season.

TIP #1:
CLEAN YOUR HAIR BRUSHES

If you’re like me you take spring cleaning seriously. Everything in the house must be cleaned from closets and cabinets to carpets and walls.   But, here today we’re talking about different type cleaning that needs to be done too. Your Hair Brushes. That’s right, cleaning your hair brushes should be a priority too. If you don’t regularly clean your hair brushes, they collect all kinds of dust, hair product particles, which can be a breathing ground for bacteria and yeast. And if you don’t clean your brushes regularly, it only means that you keep putting all this back into your hair while you brush it. Your plastic combs should be bathed in warm water with detergent weekly and your paddle brushes should be washed (not bathed) with detergent and using a toothbrush to make sure you get all the dirt out, leaving your paddle brush bristles facing down to dry.

TIP #2:
COMB YOUR HAIR BEFORE SHOWER

Not brushing your hair before you go in the shower can really be damaging to your hair.  Brushing your hair before you go in the shower decreases shedding and the risk of hair loss in the shower.  Your hair is very weak when it’s wet, and when your hair is wet it’s very easy to tangle too. Combing before the shower will ensure that you have less tangled hair after you’re done, preventing breakage.

TIP #3:
SWITCH SHAMPOO + CONDITIONER

During the winter because of the dry air, we need to use thick and moisturizing products in our hair. But now that warmer weather is coming, we need to switch our shampoos and conditioners to anti-frizz, anti-humidity, products that add volume and bounce to our hair. Adding too much moisture into your hair could counteract with humid weather making your hair even more frizzy.

TIP #4:
DEEP CLEAN YOUR SCALP

Just as important to clean your home in Spring, it’s also important to keep our scalp clean of all the product build up and apple cider vinegar rinse is a great option to deep clean your scalp and hair. It also helps add shine.  I like to use Purology apple cider vinegar rinse and I also use this leave-in apple cider conditioner. But you can create your own mixture as well with using 1 to 4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (ACV) with 8 ounces of water in a plastic squeeze bottle or spray bottle. To do this you wash your hair with a shampoo then add  apple cider vinegar solution all over your head and then rinse it out. Then add your favorite conditioner and condition your hair.

TIP #5:
USE ANTI-FRIZZ SERUMS/SPRAYS

As Spring weather can be unpredictable and rain can come any day, it’s important to use anti-frizz spray after washing your hair.  Apply the anti-frizz spray on your damp hair from mid shaft to roots, this will help seal and smooth the hair cuticle, preventing flyaways and your hair to frizz up if you find yourself in a sudden rain.

TIP #6:
TRY NEW HAIRSTYLES

In my last post I shared easy spring hairstyles I like to wear. It’s important to have your hair ready for those rainy days, it will ensure that if you have your hair in a chic hairstyle before leaving the house then you’ll not have to worry about your hair throughout the day.

These easy to do tips on how to prepare your hair for spring will ensure you have a great hair this spring season.  Leave me a comment and let me know if you have any special products you love to use during Spring.
